The "Sapindus Mukorossi" is a tree up to 15 meters high that grows in Kashmir, on the foothills of the Himalayas. It begins to bear fruit after a decade and is productive for about 90 years.
The ripe wash is sticky because of its high saponin content. Sapindus Mukorossi produces this substance to protect itself from the harmful organisms it removes (insects suckers and mosquitos in particular). The secret substance is SAPONINE (100% natural soap) contained exclusively in the walnut shell. Saponin is a fully biodegradable glucoside (sugars in combination).
The harvest is annual and is just before the rainy season, between mid September and mid December.
As soon as the shell comes in contact with the water, it releases a very soapy and low foaming detergent.
Saponin is a detergent (surfactant) that degreases, cleans and cleanses.
For all your washings cotton, colors, wool, silk, from 30 ° to 90 ° c:
It should be noted that this is above all a natural product. The weight, size, appearance, saponin content may vary from nut to nut.
The dosage therefore depends on various factors, such as the dirtiness of the linen, the size of the drum or the quality of the water supplying the machine.
Our instructions for the quantity of nuts to be used per machine are therefore approximate.
- Treat the large spots with an ecological stain remover (eg "Ecover Stain Remover").
- To avoid the greyness of white linen: add 1 to 2 tablespoons of whitening agent (eg Sodium Percarbonate).
- For delicate woollens and linen: prefer the use of a decoction of wash nuts. Pour it into the machine's tray.
- Fill the small linen bag with 5 to 7 halves of walnut shells,
- Close it and place it directly in the drum of the washing machine
- Start the machine as usual, with or without prewash.
On average, up to 3 uses can be used for laundry detergent at 30 °, two at 40 °, one or two at 60 ° and one at 90 °.
Ensure that the sachet containing the nuts, placed in the center of the drum, can circulate freely in the laundry and thus release the saponin optimally. The drum of the washing machine must not be overloaded or too little filled. We advise you to fill it up only 3/4.
The small bag is left for the duration of the washing cycle including during rinsing.

Before washing, dissolve the chips in a little hot water.
Hand wash: 1 handle for 5 liters of water. Wash and rinse thoroughly. For woollens, use cold water. You can add a little vinegar to the rinse water, so even the most fragile woolens will remain soft to the touch and pleasant to wear.
Machine wash: Dissolve 40gr of flakes in 1 liter hot or boiling water and mix until the soap is completely dissolved. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil. Mix before each use. Put a mustard glass for each laundry (125-150mL). Refer to the operating instructions of the machine. Do not exceed the indicated dose to avoid excessive foaming.
